Co. x Underground Market: Fashion Flea Market 2022

Underground Market is no stranger to the Co. at Duxton. Championing sustainable fashion and the circular economy, its 14th edition in collaboration with the Co. in December 2021 saw more than 1000 attendees over two Saturdays.

For its 15th run, Underground Market returned to our shophouse space on 2 and 9 July to present a thoughtful curation of luxury lifestyle and fashion bargains to the community—and more. On top of an impressive roster of leading lifestyle and fashion industry leaders and influencers, our Co. x Underground Market flea was graced by local cold brew microbrewery Wake The Crew and other Duxton neighbourhood partners including Elevate Performance Gym and Nom Gelato. This was an exciting direction to take the flea market in, towards forging a more dynamic and enjoyable experience for shoppers.

In recent years, fast fashion has reared its ugly head of not paying fair wages to workers for an acceptable standard of living, poor working conditions child labor, environmental destruction from hazardous chemicals, plastic-derived materials, and shocking extents of water pollution and textile waste.
The idea to host a flea market at the Co. was born out of the spirit of Co.mmunity and an aspiration to normalise owning second-hand items towards curbing the ills of fast fashion.

All fashion and lifestyle items offered at the flea market were previously owned, hopeful for a new lease of life. This edition of the flea market saw a diverse roster of vendors, which means a wider range of sizes for shoes and apparel as well as a greater variety of items for all sexes. Think: ceramics, winterwear, shoes, jewellery and even beauty appliances.

At the Co. there's never a missed opportunity to involve the Co.mmunity and our partner establishments in the Duxton neighnourhood.
Elevate Performance Gym set up camp at a cosy nook of the flea market to offer sports massages to attendees in between their hunt for their new fashion spoils. Located just a minute's walk away from the Co., the gym also offered free gym sessions on both Saturdays to market goers.
Nom Gelato also joined the fun with their delicious and creamy gelato, featuring classic and exciting flavours from 72% dark chocolate, to whisky and bacon brittle, to blue cheese with walnut praline.

Our longstanding shophouse-sharing first-storey neighbour Kilo Kitchen also took part in the festivities, offering $10 sangrias and gin and tonics that attendees can redeem by flashing a digital coupon prepared especially for the Co. x Underground Market flea.
SG Taps a couple doors down along Duxton Road also extended a 10% discount for their offerings of smooth craft beers and addictive bar grub to attendees who presented a similar digital coupon.

With the collective Co.mmunity effort of partners and neighbours, the second Co. x Underground Market flea was yet another successful and meaningful event. With more than 1000 attendees over the two Saturdays in July, the flea market saw new friendships forged and enlightening insights shared on sustainability within the fashion industry.
